Villager Names Mod for Minecraft 1.20.4, 1.20.1, 1.19.4 and 1.19.2, will make each of Minecraft’s villagers have their own name, which will be visible both on top of their heads and in the inventory. In this way, the realism of the games, as well as the gameplay, will be considerably improved.
In addition, this add-on works with any villager in the game, including those that have been generated prior to the installation of the mod. For now, the list of names is over 5.000, and these will be chosen randomly each time a villager without a name is detected.
Of course, players will have the possibility to modify the list of names, but until that happens, the game will assign the preset names at the start. The list of names can be edited in the file “customnames.txt”, which is located inside the folder “config/villagernames”.
To activate only custom names, it is important to disable the “_useFemaleNames” and “_useMaleNames” settings. Otherwise, both default names and names customised by the players themselves can be generated, depending on chance, of course.
By default, the customised list of names is enabled (even if no new name has been assigned), again, it can be disabled at any time. To do so, the creator has added another command similar to the previous ones, in this case “_useCustomNames”.
